PayPal has announced the launch of PayPal World, a refined cross-border payment platform that connects multiple local payment solutions globally.

PAYPAL WORLD: A Unified Payment Platform

The platform aims to streamline how people send money, shop both online and in-store, by integrating various local payment systems and digital wallets into one unified system.

Optimized for Cross-Border Commerce

PayPal World uses open commerce APIs and a cloud-native, multi-region deployment architecture that ensures low latency and optimal availability worldwide. This setup enhances the platform’s reliability and performance across different regions while also providing enhanced safety and security features for all partners.

PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL PAYMENT SOLUTIONS

The platform’s partners include Mercado Pago, NPCI International Payments Limited (UPI), PayPal, Tenpay Global, and Venmo. UPI accounts for roughly 85% of the total volume of retail digital payments in India, making it a significant player in expanding PayPal’s international reach through this partnership.

Customer Benefits

With PayPal World, customers can enjoy:

  • Access to shop at millions of businesses both online and in-store with AI agents.
  • The ability to pay international businesses using their preferred domestic payment system or wallet in the local currency.
  • Efficient cross-border money transfer options for users across different borders.

The platform is set to launch starting from September 2025, with all partners interoperable with PayPal and Venmo. Future expansions are also planned to include more partners in the ecosystem.

Enhanced Scam Alerts through AI

In July 2025, PayPal introduced AI-enabled dynamic scam detection for Friends and Family payments on both PayPal and Venmo platforms, aiming to protect customers globally from potential scams. These alerts are designed to warn customers in real-time about potential scams and prevent financial losses by intervening before any transactions occur.

Given that scammers frequently use social media to coerce individuals into making unauthorized payments, which may not be eligible for refunds, PayPal’s focus is on providing more information to customers to help them avoid falling victim to such scams proactively.
