With the introduction of the L1 Slim, NEXT Biometrics targets improved integration for identity verification modules, point-of-sale terminals, tablets, and other device makers. The company seeks to streamline the process, enhancing user experience across various applications.
Technical Features and Certifications
The newly launched sensor is certified for India’s Aadhaar program and countries using the Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP) framework. This certification significantly reduces time-to-market, making it easier for customers to deploy the technology.
NEXT Biometrics employs its Active Thermal technology, which uses both heat from the finger and 3D imaging to authenticate users. This approach provides enhanced liveness detection capabilities compared to other fingerprint authentication technologies, effectively countering spoofing attacks.
The L1 Slim product is designed to reduce sensor thickness, improve image resolution, and lower energy consumption. These features facilitate easier integration with a wide range of devices such as readers, peripherals, and terminals.
Since its inception in 2000, NEXT Biometrics has supplied over 10 million sensors. Its Active Thermal technology is recognized by entities like Aadhaar, FBI-PIV, MOSIP Compliance, and NIBSS. The company’s solutions are implemented in various countries including Bangladesh, China, Ghana, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the US, and Vietnam.
In January 2025, NEXT Biometrics entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a new partner in India. Together, they plan to develop a biometric module specialized for liveness detection and target continued growth on dynamic Aadhaar L1 and MOSIP markets, as well as within several national ID programs.
