The Klarna Card is currently being piloted in the United States, allowing users to choose between paying immediately or in installments using a single card. This functionality is supported by Marqeta’s platform, which was among the first issuer processors in the US to be certified for Visa Flexible Credential in 2024.
Both companies plan to expand this offering across the US later in 2025, further solidifying their partnership and the capabilities of the Klarna Card.
Since 2018, Marqeta has been supporting Klarna’s virtual card programs in the US, helping drive growth and innovation. Through this latest collaboration, representatives from Klarna noted that they are aiming to enhance the flexibility and versatility of the Klarna Card experience with the support of Marqeta and Visa.
In June 2022, Marqeta and Klarna started working on the Klarna Card, focusing on offering customers more control over their payments and providing cost-effective alternatives for high-priced purchases. Prior to this, they extended their partnership into 13 additional European markets.
Recently, Klarna also partnered with Meta to launch a ‘Play Now, Pay Later’ bundle for gamers in the UK. This initiative allowed consumers to purchase the latest Meta Quest headsets and subscriptions using a flexible payment plan from Klarna.
