Greece has joined the European Payments Alliance (EPA), making significant strides towards unified interoperability for A2A instant payments across Europe.
Key Steps in the New Partnership
In line with this development, a crucial milestone for DIAS involved signing a Letter of Intent by four national schemes participating in the first phase of the initiative. These include DIAS (Greece), SIBS (Portugal), Bizum (Spain), and BANCOMAT (Italy).
Contributions through IRIS Payments
Through the IRIS Payments partnership, DIAS aims to simplify instant mobile payments for its users within Europe. This contribution is expected to form a unified network serving citizens in 10 European countries: Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Andorra.
Further Details on Greece’s Participation
The official press release emphasizes that Greece’s involvement with EuroPA is part of DIAS’s ongoing strategic direction. This collaboration involves the banking sector in Greece, the Bank of Greece, and the Greek State. The institutions will continue to address evolving market needs while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
Technical and Institutional Support
The interoperability of A2A solutions among participating countries is supported by the European Mobile Payment Systems Association (EMPSA), in which DIAS is an active member. EuroPA is designed to complement other European initiatives like Wero/EPI, aiming for a unified real-time and secure electronic payments market.
Future Integration
Additionally, the initiative will prepare DIAS to support IRIS P2P transactions via EuroPA in the first half of 2026.
