Greece has officially become a member of the European Payments Alliance (EPA), advancing its goal of achieving seamless A2A instant payments throughout Europe.

Fundamental Milestones

Following this integration, a significant milestone for DIAS was the signing of the Letter of Intent by four national schemes that are part of the first phase of the EPA initiative. These include DIAS (Greece), SIBS (Portugal), Bizum (Spain), and BANCOMAT (Italy).

Collaboration with IRIS Payments

Through its partnership with IRIS Payments, DIAS aims to facilitate simplified instant mobile payments within Europe for its users. This effort contributes to the formation of a unified network that is expected to benefit citizens across ten European countries: Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Andorra.

Supporting Interoperability

The interoperability of A2A solutions between participating nations is supported by the technical expertise and institutional backing of the European Mobile Payment Systems Association (EMPSA). DIAS’s membership in EMPSA ensures that it remains aligned with other key European initiatives, such as Wero/EPI, taking a step towards a unified electronic payments market.

Future Outlook

The integration of Greece into EuroPA through IRIS Payments represents a continuation of DIAS’s strategic direction and institutional path. This is in collaboration with the Greek banking sector, the Bank of Greece, and the government of Greece, ensuring that user needs are met while regulatory compliance remains a top priority.

Technical Readiness

By joining EuroPA, DIAS becomes better positioned to support IRIS P2P transactions via EuroPA in the first half of 2026.
