Network International has introduced mobile money capabilities on its N-Genius point-of-sale terminals in Ghana, as part of a recent partnership with Blu Penguin.
This collaboration enables merchants using Network’s terminals to accept payments from all mobile money providers, thereby increasing digital payment options for customers. The implementation helps Network International maintain its role as a third-party payment processor in Ghana and aims to unify card and mobile money transactions through a single interface.
Focus on West African Markets with Mobile-first Integration
As part of the arrangement, Blu Penguin’s mobile-first platform is being incorporated into Network International’s acquiring network. This backend integration supports real-time mobile money transactions and aligns with major telecommunications networks. Officials from Blu Penguin state that this technical setup aims to simplify payment processing for financial institutions and merchants while promoting greater use of digital payments in West Africa.
Network International officials have highlighted that the initiative will enable businesses to provide a wider range of flexible payment options via existing hardware, catering especially to customers who do not utilize traditional banking services. They view this partnership as an important step towards enhancing payment infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasizing accessibility and efficiency.
The service has already been activated in Ghana with plans for expansion into other markets where Network International operates. Blu Penguin currently operates in Côte d’Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo besides Ghana.
