Brex has obtained its Payment Institution (PI) license in the EU through the Netherlands, demonstrating its dedication to supporting high-growth businesses across various international markets.

Accessing a broader European customer base

Brex is now considering obtaining a separate license and serving UK-based customers in the future as part of its ongoing efforts to expand its product offerings and enter new market territories. Prior to this, Brex’s platform was exclusive to companies headquartered in the United States; however, with this development, it caters to businesses operating within the EU, with nearly 50% of its customer base working across multiple countries.

The PI license underscores Brex’s commitment to ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and local laws. The company plans to introduce all its products, including corporate cards, expense management tools, and treasury solutions, to enterprises based in the region.

Brex’s advanced global payments infrastructure serves over 200 countries and more than 60 currencies, and this license will expedite its growth by enabling tailored services for EU-based businesses and their subsidiaries. The onboarding process will commence with selected customers through a phased implementation plan, becoming fully operational early in 2026.

To support these new customers, Brex has set up offices in the Netherlands with comprehensive teams in sales, operations, and customer service. Currently, a dozen team members are working on-site, and there are plans to increase the workforce as Brex expands its European presence.
