BitGo has recently announced the launch of a subsidiary in Brazil as part of its international expansion strategy aimed at supporting financial institutions interested in digital asset custody and treasury services.
This move reflects growing expectations that Brazil might introduce new regulations requiring local oversight over cryptographic keys, prompting BitGo to establish operations under the name BitGo Brasil Tecnologia Ltda.
The company, which already has regulatory approval in Germany under the EU’s MiCA framework, is committed to a long-term presence in Brazil, irrespective of any final regulatory decisions. Company officials indicate that this local entity will tailor services to fit Brazil’s evolving legislative landscape and provide infrastructure specifically designed for domestic financial institutions.
Tailored Solutions for Brazilian Institutions
The Brazilian operation now offers insured cold storage custody, over-the-counter trading, and corporate treasury management tools. These services are supported by audit-ready APIs, workflow automation, and technical assistance aimed at helping institutions enhance operational efficiency and oversight of their crypto-related assets.
BitGo representatives highlighted that the expansion into Brazil was also motivated by increasing demand from regional banks, brokerages, and asset managers for digital asset infrastructure that adheres to local standards. The localization effort encompasses not only regulatory compliance but also a consideration of Brazil’s broader economic and cultural context.
A spokesperson emphasized BitGo’s commitment as a long-term partner for local institutions. They stated that the company intends to remain active in Brazil, regardless of future legislative changes, and adapt its services accordingly.
Since 2013, BitGo has been an active player in the digital asset sector and operates a global network of regulated entities. Its infrastructure supports substantial volumes of digital asset transactions, particularly on the Bitcoin network, catering to institutional clients seeking custody, trading, staking, and settlement services.
