American Express Expands UK Airline Coverage with Wizz Air Acceptance
American Express has recently bolstered its UK air travel acceptance network by integrating Wizz Air, allowing cardholders to make payments for bookings and in-flight purchases directly through the airline’s website and mobile app.
This integration ensures that Amex cardholders now have access to payment options across all major airlines operating within and out of the United Kingdom. The move completes Amex’s coverage of the UK’s primary air travel landscape, providing a seamless booking experience for its cardmembers.
According to American Express representatives, special promotions tied to Wizz Air purchases will soon be introduced through the Amex Offers platform, enhancing the incentives available to cardholders who book flights with Wizz Air.
Wizz Air, a popular low-cost carrier that services over 70 million passengers annually and operates around 800 routes worldwide, continues its expansion into both established and emerging markets. The airline’s decision to accept American Express cards reflects an effort to offer greater convenience to customers, especially business travelers who frequently use Amex for their travel expenses.
Beyond air travel, American Express has also extended its acceptance across all major rail operators in the UK and Transport for London’s contactless network. The company has recently partnered with Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus to enable tap-and-go payments on regional bus and tram services in parts of Surrey, Sussex, and Kent.
The agreement with Wizz Air is part of Amex’s ongoing efforts to expand its acceptance footprint throughout the UK. Company officials stated that this partnership builds on a growing network of merchants, ranging from national supermarket chains, high street retailers, to numerous small businesses.
A representative from Wizz Air highlighted how adding American Express as a payment option caters to corporate customers who already rely heavily on Amex for travel-related expenses. Amex’s additional travel-related services, such as airport lounge access and travel insurance, remain available but were not part of the initial announcement regarding this partnership.
