Visa Launches Flex Credential in Vietnam

Visa, a digital payments provider, has introduced Visa Flex Credential in Vietnam. This initiative aims to offer customers more flexibility and control over their spending through various payment options.

The first financial institution to adopt this solution is Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ACB). ACB Visa cardholders can now switch between debit and credit cards seamlessly via the ACB One app. Other banks, like Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB), are also expected to follow suit through their apps.

Officials predict that by the end of 2025, more issuers will expand Flex Credential usage to cater to a broader range of Vietnamese consumers. This move is part of Visa’s strategy to support various financial needs and transactions.

Key Features of Visa Flex Credential

Visa Flex Credential allows customers direct control over each transaction. Users can opt for debit for everyday purchases, credit for larger expenses, or even use loyalty points during checkouts—whether it’s essential goods or travel plans.

Additionally, users can pay overtime directly from the app and manage multiple currency accounts through a single credential. This feature is particularly useful for handling diverse financial needs in today’s globalized economy.

Customer Benefits

Some of the core features include:

  • Customisable payment options—users can choose between debit, credit, prepaid, loyalty points, etc., to meet different spending requirements with a single credential.

  • Augmented security protocols—customers can enjoy advanced protection against fraud through Visa’s latest security technologies.

  • Personalised insights and control—AI-driven insights help users optimally manage their finances and spending habits.

  • Unified payment experience—all financial transactions are managed through a single, user-friendly platform for convenience and efficiency.

Visa is also collaborating with ACB to support Cashless Day 2025, a local initiative aimed at promoting the adoption of digital financial services.

Flex Credential for SMEs

Visa first introduced Flex Credential in partnership with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company (SMCC), known as Olive, in Japan two years ago. Today, five million Olive account holders benefit from the Visa Flex Credential, with their transactions averaging 40% higher than the national average over the past year.

Visa and SMCC have expanded this solution to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing flexibility to switch between business and personal accounts using a single Olive card. This optimizes access to credit and cash flow management.
