Curve Pay Launched on iOS in Europe
This development follows Apple’s compliance with the European Commission’s ruling over competition concerns. Specifically, the commission required commitments from Apple that have now been legally binding under EU antitrust regulations. These agreements were aimed at addressing the issues surrounding Apple’s previous refusal to provide rivals access to its NFC technology standards.
New Features of Curve Pay for iOS Users
Originally scheduled for a May 2024 release, Curve Pay is now available on iOS in Europe, offering iPhone users the convenience of making contactless payments by double-clicking the side button. This move aims to help banks reduce transaction fees they currently pay to Apple.
Growing Adoption of Mobile Payments
As mobile contactless payment adoption rises across Europe, 2024 saw online transactions surpass 60% and in-store payments exceed 25%. This growth has put pressure on companies like Apple, as their customers are limited to using Apple Pay without any competitive options for expertise or economic benefits.
What Curve Pay Offers
Curve Pay is designed as a smarter wallet with integrated features such as real-time spending insights, reward stacking, and the flexibility to switch payment sources post-transaction. Its mission is to enable users in the European Economic Area to view their finances more intelligently, facilitating smarter spending habits.
Pass-through Wallets and Beyond
Similar to pass-through wallets like Apple Pay, Curve’s technology sits within the payment flow. However, it provides an array of additional capabilities including the ability to change used cards, split payments, earn cashback, track expenses in real time, and pay from accounts such as PayPal—all through one app.
Universal Accessibility
Following its iOS launch, Curve Pay has also become available on Android platforms. This ensures that all users can benefit from the wallet’s services regardless of their device.
